Understanding Hair Transplant Surgery
People who are balding would benefit a lot through the surgical procedure of hair transplantation. Hair transplant today is something that a lot of people undergo and it a popular procedure It is a reality that men and women of today struggle with the problem of hair loss. If they want to restore their scalp back to their natural and growing state, then the best option is to undergo this surgical procedure.
In this type of surgical procedure, hair is taken from other parts of the body and transplanted to the top of the head. If there is hair around the back and sides of the scalp, then these hairs are used for the transplant. Hair on these parts is found in those suffering from male pattern baldness and is called donor dominant hair. When this type of hair, the donor dominant hair, is transplanted to a balding part of the head, there is a very large chance that the hair will grow. The method called follicular unit hair transplant is the most successful transplantation method. Compared to traditional hair transplant procedures, the follicular unit hair transplant is more superior. Because of the small incisions and accurate placements of hair follicles in this method, the result is hair that is thicker and closer together compared to what you get from the traditional hair transplant methods. High powered microscopes are used to prepare and trim tissues. This will enable surgeons to be able to place more grafts in a small space. Harvesting of the hair follicles is done by a trained and skilled hair restoration surgeon.
This is an outpatient procedure where the patient is given local anesthesia before surgery. The next step the surgeon does is to get follicles and hair from parts of the body that are donor dominant and they are divided into individual grafts. These grafts are then inserted under the skin of the balding area of the head and are left them to grow new hair. The length of time in inserting grafts can take from six to eight hours, and it has to be done on more than one session until all the bald area is covered. The surgeon will put as many grafts as are needing for the balding parts of your head.
When the surgery is finished, you don’t expect to see results immediately. The transplanted hair will fall out of the follicles after transplant. When this happens the procedure did not fail but this is a normal occurrence. Relocation trauma will cause all the hairs to fall but after two to three months, new hair will grow from the transplanted follicles. In the next six months, there will be hair growth that will continue to thicken.
